Fear Not 365 – Draw Near to God

March 23, 2017 by ChristianHolinessDaily Leave a Comment

Andrew was just a toddler when he was rushed by ambulance to a hospital 125 miles away. The cause of his persistent high fever had stumped the local doctors. Within a day he had been diagnosed with Kawasaki’s Syndrome, a rare disease.

As part of the treatment, they placed our boy under an oxygen tent to keep him cool, something that he was too young to understand. He was afraid. As parents it was difficult to watch him cry and reach out to us and not be able to hold him.

We neither one could resist; our son wanted us… needed us. One at a time, we would crawl under the oxygen tent and into bed with him. We held him and reassured him until he was ready to come home a week later.

If we, as fallible human parents, possess the irresistible urge to treat our children with such loving care, can we ever begin to imagine the loving care of our perfect Heavenly Father?

Reach out to Him, and he will comfort you and hold you.

Fear Not. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Fear Not 365 – Delight in His Comforts

The world stopped for over two days in October, 1987, for an 18 month old baby had slipped deep into a well and was trapped. The well casing, only eight inches wide, held her tight 22 feet below ground. One of her legs was lodged above her head and her hand was plastered to her face. The entire world watched, held their breath, and prayed as workers tried to rescue baby Jessica.

There was no reaching get through the well. Workers sent a camera down to monitor her while digging a parallel shaft beside her.

As the world prayed for baby Jessica, she was heard singing Winnie the Pooh. 58 hours after she fell, rescuers miraculously reached baby Jessica and brought her to the surface. In the aftermath, she underwent 15 surgeries. Thirty years later, she has no doubt that God was on her side. He comforted her during those desperate hours in the dark well.

In what kind of dark place do you find yourself? Call out to God for comfort. Do you need prayer? Ask God’s help. The Holy Spirit knows your need and will help you to pray. Delight in God’s comforts.

Fear Not. Delight in the comforts of God.

Fear Not 365 – Flee from Evil

March 20, 2017 by ChristianHolinessDaily Leave a Comment

It was my 15th birthday and some friends and I went to see the movie, THE OMEN. Afterwards, something happened that I cannot explain and will never forget. We were all spending the night at Billy and Bobby Barker’s house, about seven of us, all teenaged boys. They had the entire attic as a room, which seemed awesome. They also had a ouija board that seemed to read our minds and knew intimate details of our lives. It was not so awesome.

I’ll be honest; I was nearly scared to death. The room filled with shadows, and noises, and lights like I’ve never seen before or since. A scary movie. A ouija board. Seven very active imaginations. Perhaps the devil himself. I left, and began walking home-based frightened the entire way.

It was after midnight, and I walked nearly eight miles before I caught a ride home.Still, I think I did the right thing. A wise man fears evil and departs from it, according to the Bible. That’s exactly what I did. The thing is, I never should have put myself in a situation where I had to walk home in the middle of the night.

If we walk hand-in-hand with Christ, we will be better able to identify evil, and avoid it altogether.

Fear Not. Flee from evil… or, better yet, avoid it altogether.
