I Am- The Way, The Truth, and The Life

December 18, 2016 by ChristianHolinessDaily Leave a Comment

Even among Evangelicals, there is a trend to believe that there are many ways to heaven. We want to believe that there are good people who are Muslims, Buddhists, or even agnostics who will join us in heaven, simply because we know them to be good people.

Good, though, is a relative term. On a sliding scale of depravity, the world is, indeed, full of good people. Up against a perfect, holy, and just God, no one is good. No, not one.

When the standard is sinless perfection, Billy Graham is a wretch. When the standard is purity and righteousness, Mother Teresa is despicable.

If we take Jesus at His Word – and I know no other way to take Him, then no one, no matter how good, no matter how well-intended, no one can be saved from sin and death without putting their faith in the hands of Jesus.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

I Am – the Resurrection and the Life

December 17, 2016 by ChristianHolinessDaily Leave a Comment

A holy God demands a holy people. One single sin is enough to keep you or I from heaven. To a just and perfect God, every sin is a capital crime. No one has the power to escape death and eternal damnation. Yes, God is holy and just, yet He is compassionate.

Before He spun the world on its axis, He provided the perfect sacrifice for sin. Before He breathed life into Adam, He had already offered His only begotten Son as the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world.

Christ came to earth, a baby both fully human and fully God. He lived a perfect life. He lived a sinless life. He gave Himself up on a cross. He raised Himself up from the dead on the third day, defeating sin and death, so that we may not perish… so that we may live in victory.

He is the Resurrection and the Life.

I Am – The Good Shepherd

December 16, 2016 by ChristianHolinessDaily Leave a Comment

This description is of Christ is, to me, the most comforting ; one cannot hear the words without thinking of the 23rd Psalm. And, I imagine that Christ had that psalm in mind when He gave us this illustration.

King David, the preeminent king of Israel and author of many of the 23rd Psalm, had spent his youth as a shepherd. He knew well that the first qualification of the shepherd was to be willing to die for the sheep. He had faced death himself, fighting off a lion and a bear to protect his sheep.

It is because the Good Shepherd has already defeated the lion that sought to devour us that we – His sheep – may fear no evil, even though we pass through the Valley of the Shadow of Death.

Christ is our Good Shepherd. I shall not want…
